Sintra

In Sintra, it is not only the Pena Palace that deserves a visit.

Everything is worth visiting in Sintra. The challenge is choosing what to see and do in a single day. We can offer some advice. If you have never visited Pena Palace, you may end up not wanting to leave. This must-see fantastical architectural gem is sure to transport you into a fairy tale dream. A more recent discovery, also not to be missed, is the pleasant chalet of the Countess D’Edla, dating from the 19th century. This eclectically decorated home was once the romantic getaway of D. Fernando and his second wife – Elise Hensler. The mature gardens surrounding the house gather vegetation from the four corners of the world and its view of Pena Palace is beautiful! Sintra’s rich romantic history is worth studying in more detail – at Lawrence’s restaurant, for instance, where Lord Byron gained inspiration to write many of his love poems.
