Cascais & Estoril

The beautiful string of beaches along the coast, the idyllic landscape of Sintra that so captivated Lord Byron, the natural wildness of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, the picturesque towns and villages and the rich history of the area make this a must-see destination for any visitor that is staying in any in a hotel in lisbon's coast.

Cascais first became popular in the 19th century, when it became the summer retreat of the Portuguese royal family, and is now a cosmopolitan town that still preserves a great deal of its aristocratic charm. Cascais offers luxury boutiques alongside traditional commerce, as well as a wide variety of outdoor cafes and restaurants to catch a few moments’ rest.

There is not enough space to describe all that is worth experiencing in Cascais & Estoril but perhaps we should start with one of its most notable characteristics – the climate. From April to October, the town is imbued with a summer atmosphere. If you decide to wander through the centre of Cascais at the end of the day and simply lose yourself among its picturesque streets, it is already worth the visit. If you are more of a gastronomy enthusiast, you cannot miss “Lurdes” (Restaurante Mar do Inferno), a restaurant with an esplanade located at Boca do Inferno and where the sea view is as delicious as its fish and seafood dishes. If you have the time, make sure to pay a visit to Paula Rêgo’s “House of Stories” (Casa das Histórias), a museum of the artist’s work designed by the Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura and which is already an emblematic symbol of Cascais.
